Cellular Orthobiologic Therapy Maybe An Alternative To Hip Replacement & Surgery

Many patients have turned to Cell Therapy as a better alternative to hip replacement and hip surgery, with an easier and faster recovery and with significantly less complications.

Hip surgery is often recommended as a treatment for several hip arthritis pain conditions.  Hip replacement is also often recommended to individuals with severe joint mobility problems who often experience pain during movement or weight bearing. Frequently, these difficulties are due to osteoarthritis, the diagnosis given when the cartilage in a joint has worn away. However, as with most surgeries, hip surgery has some risks, including pain, blood clots, reactions to anesthesia, infections or muscle loss. Also, it requires hospitalization for a few days.

In addition, the recovery from hip replacement may be relatively slow, often requiring many months when patients cannot stand or walk without assisting devices, and a period of around three months when hip movements such as bending and twisting must be avoided. Hip replacement is also followed by several months of physical therapy.

After undergoing hip replacement surgery, patients may have to give up certain physical activities such as jogging and high-impact sports, possibly for the rest of their lives.  Moreover, hip replacements last only for approximately 10-15 years, so it’s likely that patients will require a second hip replacement surgery, which is usually far more complex, requiring longer recovery than the initial hip replacement surgery .

How Does Cellular Orthobiologic Therapy for Hip Pain Work?

All of our minimally invasive outpatient treatments have the goal of regenerating cells, alleviating pain, improving function and ultimately reducing or eliminating our patients’ suffering. We provide the latest cutting-edge and low-risk alternatives to invasive surgeries, allowing our patients to avoid those associated risks and long recovery times.

Repair cells exist in high concentrations in bone marrow which can be aspirated with minimal discomfort, and then injected back into the hip along with concentrated platelet rich plasma. Platelet rich plasma is a portion of the patient’s own blood that is obtained by a simple method of centrifugation of a blood sample. Platelet rich plasma has a high concentration of growth factors that activate regeneration and prompt the production of additional growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Consequently, not only can regenerative cells provide the precursor cells for repair, but they can also change the environment in the hip from inflammatory to regenerating.

As part of a cell-based treatment, regenerative cells can be collected from bone marrow and blood with minimal discomfort. These cells can then be minimally processed in a state of the art laboratory utilizing the latest technology. Finally, the regenerative cells,  can be injected where they are needed – such as an inflamed hip. Over time, the cells can potentially repair and regenerate the damaged tissues, resulting in relief of pain and improvement in mobility and function.

Typically, a single cellular injection should be sufficient for most hip problems. We do all our procedures under ultrasound or X-Ray fluoroscopic guidance to increase accuracy and decrease the likelihood of complications.  Frequently, we combine cellular injections with platelet rich plasma injections to reinforce the activity of the cells.

We also add Shock Wave Therapy, additional Cytokines and Supplements and alpha-2-Macroglobulin as needed.

REGENERATIVE ORTHOBIOLOGIC CELL THERAPY ALLOWS A QUICK RECOVERY

One of the main reasons why Cell Therapy has become a popular alternative to hip surgery and knee replacement is the quick and simple recovery. Cellular therapy is an outpatient procedure. After harvesting the cells, the procedure takes only a few hours to complete.

After the injection of the cells, the recovery time may differ from patient to patient. In general, the majority of patients are able to walk within 24 hours. There may be soreness in treated tissues and joints for a few days. Excessive stress on the treated area due to high-impact activities such as running, jumping or squatting, for example, should be avoided for two to three months. Patients should begin to notice improvements within a few weeks after the injection. The cells may then gradually heal the damaged areas, allowing patients to return to their normal activities within two to three months.

Is Orthobiological Cell Treatment Right For You?

Although Orthobiologic Treatments are considered by some people to be experimental, various research studies show that cellular therapy and platelet rich plasma injections may provide excellent relief from joint and musculoskeletal pain and ongoing inflammation.
